CineRegio, a network of regional European film funds, has launched a Manifesto for Sustainable Filming, with Film London, Screen Scotland and Ffilm Cymru Wales among the many signatories.

The announcement was made during the Berlin International Film Festival, as CineRegio called upon members to join up.

Building on the CineRegio Green Manifesto, which has been signed by 45 members, the new manifesto will consider the social impact on the mental health and well-being of those working in the sector, as well as environment and climate-friendly production.

The Manifesto highlights that sustainable filming does not necessarily result in higher costs, however if additional costs do arise – these costs should be eligible as part of the overall production budget.

Daniela Kirchner, chief operating officer of Film London, said: “We believe that environmental and social sustainability are interlinked and both need to be delivered side by side to ensure the well-being of crew and climate friendly production.

“Film London is proud to sign the CineRegio Manifesto for Sustainable Filming. With over 20 members already having signed up today, we hope members from across Europe will sign up to pledge their support, making a commitment to visibly promote sustainable policies and means, and make them achievable for the film and television industry and its funding agencies.”
