Framestore blasts off with C4 space trail

Currently basking in their BAFTA win and Oscar buzz for their ground-breaking work on Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity, VFX specialist Framestore have created a visually stunning campaign for Channel 4's Live from Space season.

live from space Dermot O'Leary, is that you in there?

Directed and produced by 4Creative, the 40-second TV trail blasted off last for the first time last night on Channel 4 and during The Brit Awards on ITV. Capturing the zeitgeist for all things Gravity-esque, it features a shuttle blasting off into space with an astronaut clinging on and having the time of his life (or her, sorry Sandra!) - echoing the bomb-riding sequence from Dr. Strangelove in reverse.

Framestore won a VFX BAFTA on Sunday (16 February) for their work on Gravity and have also been nominated for an Oscar in the same category (they're going to win, surely?!).

The broadcaster's space season kicks off in March and features three shows from Arrow Media, who have collaborated with NASA to gain unprecedented access to its space station and astronauts. The highlight of the season is undoubtedly a two-hour show broadcast live from the International Space Station (ISS) and Mission Control in Houston as the ISS completes an entire orbit of the Earth. Dermot O'Leary hosts.

Chris Bovill and John Allison, heads of 4Creative said: "We wanted to remind people how being an astronaut is the most dangerous, insane, rock 'n' roll job on the planet."
