Performing arts sector benefits from BBC funding

The theatre sector has been given a boost with the announcement that £450,000 has been awarded by the BBC in grants for this year. There are two schemes –Theatre Fellowships and Community Theatre – both currently for application.

The spotlight on creative talent is highlighted by the fact that income for the fund is being raised by the phone votes on BBC One”s talent show The Voice. Phone lines open tomorrow (7 June) during the show”s first live episode, with a minimum of 10p per call going towards supporting the theatre grants.

In the last ten years, over £4m in grants has been allocated to the performing arts, including community groups and individuals in music, dance and theatre.
