C5’s The Teacher to become anthology series as second run is greenlit
Channel 5 has ordered The Teacher II (w/t), a four-part thriller from Clapperboard starring Kara Tointon.
The recommission marks the drama becoming an anthology collection, following the original The Teacher starring Sheridan Smith that aired in 2022.
Tointon stars as Dani, a teacher who loves her job and who is an inspirational mentor to her students. But a failing marriage leads her into an affair with a colleague that soon spirals out of control. Emmett J Scanlan and Will Mellor co-star.
The Teacher II is exec produced by Rachel Gesua for Clapperboard alongside Suzi McIntosh and Clapperboard MD Mike Benson. Dominic Leclerc will direct from scripts by Michael Crompton and Rebecca Wojciechowski.
Emma Foley and Tamryn Reinecke are on board as producers for Pale Rebel Productions. Teacher II w/t is produced in association with Newen Connect.
Executive producer Gesua said: “We’re delighted to be creating the next instalment of The Teacher, which is breaking new ground as Clapperboard’s first anthology collection. We’re honoured to build on the success of the original series, which was such a huge hit with audiences across the UK with such a brilliant new cast and crew.”
