The Knowledge book was first published in 1986 by three production managers,
who decided to get together and pool their contacts and expertise.
The result, thirty years on, is a directory that has become known as the industry bible for film and TV professionals.
Twelve years after the print edition was launched, the website was born. Theknowledgeonline.com quickly became a one-stop shop for those looking for crew, service providers, suppliers and anyone who may work behind the camera in film and television.
A few years later we launched The Knowledge Bulletin. This weekly news digest now carries advertising as well as a potted version of the varied original content – news, features and guides - published over the last seven days, and goes out to over 20,000 people.
MBI took over The Knowledge in 2015. The site now has over 420 categories, from armourers to art directors, from baby wranglers to line producers, making it a must-use-tool for anyone looking to source services, suppliers, crew or studios in the UK.
Take a look around the website and find out why so many industry professionals rely on The Knowledge for all their production needs.
Sarah heads up the team and knows The Knowledge inside out. She never forgets a client! A ball of energy, she is a lively presence in the office (be it bricks and mortar or virtual!) and in her spare time enjoys long walks, good cheese and even better wine.
Nia has been working at The Knowledge for nearly 15 years, and is now the main contributor to the news pages. Her focus is on scripted projects, as she also runs Production Intelligence, which sees her on the phone to producers all day long to try to gather as much info as possible! Nia’s key interests include needle-felting and cooking. Although she has yet to combine the two, she does currently have her eye on a needle-felted Aga kit…
Since 1995 Alex has worked with Sarah on the Knowledge – from the huge spiral bound printed editions and the days of the CD-ROM, to the present day website and the sleeker, more streamlined, paperback edition. Alex still provides unrivalled care and advice on the best ways to be presented to our Knowledge and Production Intelligence clients. Based in her Kent office, Alex is always on hand to help.
Jacqui is responsible for the content of the site and prides herself on her proofreading abilities and being able to spot an errant full stop at 50 paces. Outside work she loves to travel and isn't happy unless she has an adventure to look forward to!
