A new drama unit is to be established at ITV Studios, headed by Tim Haines.

Haines, the co-creator and executive producer of Primeval, will take up his role of creative director, drama, ITV Studios, where he will be joined by his colleague from Impossible Pictures, Katie Newman. Newman’s title will be executive producer, drama.

The unit will operate alongside ITV Studios established drama departments, and will develop and produce new scripted programmes for external broadcasters as well as ITV.

Denise O’Donoghue, managing director, ITV Studios UK said of the new hires: “Tim and Katie both have a vast amount of experience developing and producing drama, not least with their work on Primeval. Under their expert direction this new drama unit will contribute to the growth of our scripted production slate whilst complimenting the work of our other talented drama teams.”

Haines said: “It is a fantastic time to be making drama in the UK and internationally and we are thrilled to be joining Denise and ITV Studios. Their huge experience, reach and support allows us an amazing opportunity to take advantage of the current hunger for high end drama.”
