ITV's Fincham rejects criticism of Wonga sponsorship
Also at Edinburgh, ITV director of television Peter Fincham rejected criticisms of the broadcaster’s decision to sign a £1m deal for Red or Black? with Wonga.com, the short-term loan company that has been subject of much attention recently.
Asked for his opinion on the deal, Fincham replied: "We are a commercial broadcaster, our programmes have to be paid for by advertising and sponsorship. I don't think it is for me to opine about companies that sponsor and advertise in our programmes. Wonga is compliant (with advertising and broadcast regulations) and is one of those things that help us make Red or Black? and Saturday night entertainment."
