Rollman and Pidgeon to animate Worzel Gummidge

L.A. based children”s and family company Rollman Entertainment has reached an agreement to partner with IP content company Pidgeon Entertainment to revamp Worzel Gummidge as an animation series. Originally a book character created by Barbara Euphon Todd, Worzel”s last outing on screen was as a live action series.

According to the partners, they are developing an animated 26 x 30 minute series starring the mischievous scarecrow in a modern urban setting. Targeted at Kids 5-12 for delivery in 2014, the series will also feature neighbours Juan (neurotic Woody Allen-type) and Suzi (punky Debbie Harry-type) who “make a scarecrow out of sackcloth, old clothes and various pieces of junk – but on the magical night of the Harvest Moon, their scarecrow comes alive.”

“The prospect of creating an animated version of this revered rapscallion was a delicious opportunity for us to take on,” said Eric Rollman, head of Rollman Entertainment. “Worzel Gummidge has been entertaining children, both young and old, in every medium in which he”s appeared. We”re honoured to introduce him to a fourth generation of fans with a fresh perspective that highlights his quirky charm in a modern-day environment.”

Rollman”s recent credits include being series producer of NFL Rush Zone for Nicktoons US and executive producer of the 3D Stereoscopic animated feature film The Jungle Book from DQ Entertainment. As for Pidgeon, recent activities include a musical stage adaptation of RentaGhost that toured the UK. That property was recently optioning to 20th Century Fox Studio for a motion picture starring Ben Stiller, with Pidgeon to serve as producer.
