Channel 4 Celebrates Strong 2011
Consolidated ratings data confirms that Channel 4‘;s portfolio of channels delivered a higher growth in share than any other terrestrial portfolio in 2011.
It scored an 11.6% share across Channel 4 Total, E4 Total, More4 Total, Film4 and 4Music, up 2% on 2010′;s portfolio share (11.4%).
2011 was also an extremely strong year for Channel 4′;s Sales House, with the Sales team taking, for the first time, over £1billion in revenue across spot advertising, online, product placement and sponsorship.
In Channel 4′;s first year without Big Brother dominating the schedule, flagship channel C4 delivered a 6.8% share. This was down from 7% in 2010 but C4 put a positive spin on the number by saying “the percentage decline was the least pronounced year on year decline in core channel share for five years”. Film4, More4 and E4 all grew, the latter growing its audience by 8% among 16-34 year-olds, achieving a 4.75% share of that demo.
The top title of the year by a mile was the Big Fat Gypsy Wedding franchise (and spin-offs). This peaked at 9.71m in February 2011. Excluding films, other top titles were Embarrassing Bodies, Shameless, The Big Fat Quiz Of The Year, Grand Designs and Cutting Edge episode Obsessive Compulsive Hoarder (4.04m on 21/12/2011).
