James Corden to star in BBC comedy-thriller The Wrong Mans

Janice Hadlow, Controller BBC Two, has announced details of a six part comedy-thriller The Wrong Mans. The series is a co-production between BBC In-House Comedy and US SVOD service Hulu, underlining the growing trend for digital platforms to invest in content as a way to reduce their reliance on acquisitions and create a stable of original content they can promote their service with.

From BAFTA and Tony award-winning actor and writer James Corden and Mathew Baynton (Peep Show, Horrible Histories, Gavin & Stacey), the series centres on two office workers who become caught up in a deadly conspiracy after one discovers a ringing phone at the scene of a horrific car crash. Answering this phone turns their world upside down, as they soon realise it is up to them to step up and save the day.

According to Baynton: “James and I dreamt up The Wrong Mans during Gavin & Stacey four years ago. I”m excited to be working with the BBC and Hulu to finally make it a reality.”

The Wrong Mans was commissioned by Janice Hadlow and Cheryl Taylor, former Head of BBC Comedy Commissioning. It will be directed and produced by Jim Field Smith, co-written by James Corden and Mathew Baynton with Tom Basden and the script editor is Jeremy Dyson (The League Of Gentlemen). The series is executive produced by Mark Freeland for BBC In-house Comedy and Hulu”s Charlotte Koh. Filming is set to commence in January 2013.
