ere at the Knowledge we make
it a point to cater for the whole
of the UK, and not just provide
news and features for those working
and living in our bustling capital. Hence
this eGuide, the first in a series about
production in the regions and nations,
paying tribute to the fabulous cast and
crew working hard around the UK to
deliver the best in film and television.
With the help of our online database
of productions in all stages of
development, Production Intelligence,
we set out to put together a list of all
the productions currently shooting or
gearing up to film in Yorkshire and the
North West. It’s not so surprising that
this list has turned into a four page
feature article. UK crew is flexible and
widespread and we have hard-working
film offices throughout the UK which
can assist shoots in almost every
way imaginable. Both the British Film
Commission, local film offices such
as those in Liverpool and Bradford,
as well as Creative England, are doing
an amazing job attracting productions
which, only a few years ago, would
have probably shot elsewhere in
Europe - or even outside of its borders.
We also listened to some directors
and producers shooting currently in
Yorkshire and the North West and
asked them what they think the appeal
is of filming in the area. Aside from
the wealth of stunning and diverse
locations it is nice to read that the
importance of catering and portraying
a different demographic (than that of
our fairly affluent capital) also plays a
big part in their decision for a location.
Kay Mellor, who penned the popular
BBC One programme In The Club
(bottom left and top right photo), even
said: “Pieces of drama have some sort
of geography and have some sense
of place - that place for me is here, in
Yorkshire.”
After making a start with these eGuides
back in January, we are pleased to
see that the four we have produced
so far have been very well read - and
the team and myself hope that this
one is equally to your taste, whether
you are looking for interesting filming
locations in Yorkshire or are looking for
information on the latest productions -
