Filming begins on US remake of Friday Night Dinner
Filming gets underway in the UK this week on Dinner with the Parents, the US remake of Friday Night Dinner, commissioned by Amazon Freevee.
The straight-to-series, 10-episode run is being produced in the UK by Big Talk Productions, makers of the original. It is written by The Late Show’s Jon Beckerman and directed by Tristram Shapeero.
Beckerman and Shapeero also exec produce, alongside Kenton Allen, Mathew Justice, Robert Popper (creator of the original) and Caroline Leddy.
Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal starred in the Big Talk/Channel 4 comedy that ran for ten years from 2011; it came to an end after the sixth series, and following Ritter’s death in 2021. It centred on two brothers in their 20s who return to the middle-class Jewish family home every Friday for the traditional evening meal.
Big Talk is also busy on a new drama based on legendary highwayman Dick Turpin, for Apple TV+, starring Noel Fielding, with lots of physical production details available for subscribers on Production Intelligence.
