BBC Orders 2 More Runs Of Lee’s Comedy Vehicle

BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow and Cheryl Taylor, controller comedy commissioning, have commissioned BBC In-house comedy to produce two more series of the Stewart Lee”s Comedy Vehicle to air in 2014 and 2015.

Produced by Richard Webb, Stewart Lee”s Comedy Vehicle is a mix of stand-up and sketches, performed by Lee and guest performers. First aired in 2009 on BBC2, the new runs will both consist of six episodes.

Commenting, Taylor said: “Stewart has established himself as one of the most respected comedians on the circuit and we couldn’;t be more thrilled to confirm he will be driving two more series of Comedy Vehicle around BBC2.” Mark Freeland, Head of In-house Comedy, added: “It’;s reward for a unique, perfectionist, hardworking comedy master and the wonderful team behind him. I’;m standing by with my compliance forms.”

At the British Comedy Awards in 2011, Lee won Best Male TV Comic and the series won Best Comedy Entertainment Programme. In 2010, the series was nominated for a BAFTA TV Award for Best Comedy.
