Rushes Creates Bedlam (Promo) For Sky Living

Rushes has just completed a powerful new promo for Sky Living’;s Bedlam, an original drama based in an apartment block built on the site of a former lunatic asylum.

Leading the VFX for Rushes was Richard White who explained: “Our work included a slow-motion tracking shot in a large office; we added sheets of burning-paper, raining down in to the room from the ceiling. In other shots we built up layers of blood running down walls, splashing on the floors and changed girl’;s eyes to empty black voids adding to the wonderfully dark feeling the promos already had.”

Key to the success of the promo was a good creative dialogue with director James Debenham and the production team: “The production team provided some great elements to work with which made the results of the compositing process seamless,” commented White. “Director James Debenham was very clear in his direction while allowing room for creative input during compositing in flame.”

Debenham, who is senior creative at Sky Living HD, added: “The creative for the Bedlam promo was based on the belief that everyone in the show has a dark side. I chose to convey this in a visually stylistic abstract manner, without having the characters utter a single word. The channel really bought into the dark-symbolic-beauty concept I created, and everyone involved in the production helped to create a visually engaging promo for Living’;s first ever drama.”

The paranormal drama has been produced by Red (Casanova, Queer As Folk) as a six-part series. It stars singer and actor Will Young (Mrs Henderson Presents), Theo James (A Passionate Woman), Charlotte Salt (The Tudors) and Ashley Madekwe (Secret Diary of a Call Girl). The series will debut on Sky Living HD during early 2011.
