Olympics win big at BAFTA TV Craft Awards
No less than three awards were handed out at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on Sunday (28 April) to the teams behind the Olympic coverage which wowed the nation last summer.
The BBC”s coverage of the opening ceremony won a prize in the director (multi-camera) category and the night on which Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis and Greg Rutherford won gold for Team GB (dubbed Super Saturday) was awarded the gong for best sound (factual).
On top of this there was a digital creativity award for Channel 4′;s coverage of the Paralympics.
The Fear, Channel 4′;s drama about Brighton-based criminal Richie Beckett, also won multiple awards in the fiction genre, for editing and photography & lighting.
The best fiction director award went to BBC”s Call the Midwife. The series, starring Miranda Hart, took home the prize for make-up & hair design.
The awards ceremony, which was hosted by Stephen Mangan, also honoured The Hollow Crown with multiple accolades – produced by Sam Mendes for BBC Two, the series received recognition for best original music and best sound (fiction).
Other winners on the night included Parade’;s End, Ben Chanan”s The Plot to Bring Down Britain’;s Planes and The Girl.
Hamish Hamilton was honoured with the special award for his achievements as a director.
