Farnborough International Studios advances sustainability, VP

Farnborough International Studios enhances sustainability and partners with Quite Brilliant
The Knowledge recently attended a fam tour of Farnborough International Studios, which came just ahead of the news that the studios are partnering with virtual production specialists Quite Brilliant to provide state-of-the-art LED volume services.
Farnborough International Studios now provides large-scale LED volume solutions, including screen construction and virtual production support in a 22,000 sq ft sound stage.
Rachel Morrison, director of Farnborough International Studios, stated: “Partnering with the incredible Quite Brilliant positions Farnborough International Studios at the forefront of the virtual production revolution, providing a flexible, scalable, and high-end solution to the increasing demand for virtual environments in modern filmmaking and live events. We look forward to working with Russ, Chris and the team to showcase the wider opportunities that are available here at Farnborough International Studios.”
In addition to these advancements, Farnborough International Studios is also taking significant strides in supporting unit-based clients by offering sustainable solutions for film and television production. With a location just 40 miles from London, the studios provide more than 210,000 sq ft of stage space, along with 1,000,000 sq ft of unit base facilities and ancillary spaces.

During the fam tour, Morrison talked about the studios’ Destination Zero initiative, under which 30% of the facility’s power is solar-generated, reducing the carbon footprint of the productions hosted on-site.
The studios also prioritise the re-use of materials by donating sets to the community, such as a build from a Minoan Pictures production that was given to the Ministry of Defence for drone-flying practice.

Morrison highlighted the studios’ focus on eco credentials: “Our commitment to sustainability is integral to our operations and services here at Farnborough International Studios. By investing in renewable energy options and supporting green production practices, we aim to provide filmmakers and crews with facilities that not only meet their creative needs but also align with their environmental values and budgetary constraints.”
The studios’ are included in the BAFTA albert Suppliers Directory, recognising their sustainability standards. They have also joined The Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) as an affiliate partner.
