The Succession actor described the film as “a love letter to this country.”

Filming begins today, 26 August, in Scotland on Glenrothan, starring and directed by Brian Cox.

The project – marking Cox’s directorial feature debut – was first announced three years ago, and has been developed by Nevision and Lionsgate; it is co-produced by Blazing Griffin.

Written by creator David Ashton alongside Jeff Murphy, the story is set in the eponymous (fictional) town as two estranged brothers come together to try to save the family distillery.

As reported by our sister site Screen, Cox recently told an audience at the Edinburgh International Film Festival: “It’s a love letter to this country, which I feel is deeply neglected in every aspect.

“It’s become very confused. As a young man, as a boy, I was never very interested in Scotland as such, but as I grow older, I have become more and more interested because of the culture, because of the Celts, because of who we are, what we’ve done, and how we don’t quite get our place artistically.”
