Production takes place in and around Glasgow, supported by Screen Scotland

Laura Donnelly, Mark Rowley, Emun Elliott and Helen Baxendale lead the cast of The Dark, that has just started filming in Glasgow.

The six-part thriller is based on GR Halliday’s debut novel, From the Shadows; it is adapted by Matt Hartley and is produced by Poison Pen Studios, part of ITV Studios.

Poison Pen’s Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli, Luke Woellhaf and Fern McCauley executive produce alongside Hartley. Matt Brown produces the series, which also has Lena Rae and Nessah Muthy writing and Gilles Bannier as lead director and executive producer.

The Dark is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland.

Stephenson, who launched Poison Pen in 2023, said: “I can’t believe we have such an excellent cast at the helm of Poison Pen’s first drama. We are delighted to be working with a cast of such great actors bringing these complex characters to life, led by Laurence Olivier winner and twice Tony-nominated Laura.

“Laura has shown across her theatre and screen work what an extraordinary, varied and magnetic actress she is – pushing the boundaries of how to bring to life complex women.”

Poison Pen Studios is also prepping Danny Brocklehurst’s Adultery, set to shoot in Manchester for ITV, about a passionate affair that turns the lives of two families upside down.
