Netflix confirmed the double series renewal at its Upfront presentation

Netflix has greenlit Series 5 and 6 of period drama Bridgerton amid a slew of series renewals at its Upfront presentation.

The Shondaland show has proved a huge ratings hit for the streamer, with all series filmed in the UK – Series 4 is wrapping production at Shepperton Studios around now.

The series has been shooting at the studios’ expanded backlot, spanning nearly two acres, with set-builds of Regency and Georgian architecture including the key Mayfair Street backdrop.

In June last year, Netflix and Shondaland announced that the Bridgerton universe had boosted the UK economy by more than a quarter of a billion pounds, supporting almost 5000 businesses over the previous five years.

Among the slew of series renewals revealed at the event was another run of The Diplomat, starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell.

The Debora Cahn-created drama has filmed in various locations in the UK to date, including inside St Paul’s Cathedral – it was closed for four days of filming – Inverary Castle, Greenwich’s Old Royal Naval College and at the US Embassy in Nine Elms, for both exterior shots and inside the lobby. Many scenes were filmed at London North Studios, where the White House office was recreated.

Netflix is currently in production in the UK on Legends; Run Away; The Gentlemen S2 and The Witcher S5, and is gearing up for shoots on Greta Gerwig’s Narnia film; Pride and Prejudice; a Heartstopper feature film and Black Doves S2.
