Series 2 of Ordinary Lies films next year
A second series of Ordinary Lies is in the pipeline with filming set for next year.
The first run of the drama comprised 6 x 60 for BBC One and was filmed in autumn 2014. Set in a car showroom, it was somewhere between an anthology series and a linked drama, with each episode featuring an individual employee’s story with a running theme of the consequences of deceit.
From prolific independent shingle Red Production Company, the drama is written by Danny Brocklehurst (The Five, The Driver, The Accused, Shameless); it is executive produced by Red founder Nicola Shindler.
The pair has a long creative history of working together. At the recently held Broadcast Commissioning Forum Brocklehurst said: “Nicola took a punt on me on the second series of Clocking Off. I was a nobody writer – but I stayed in the Red stable because I liked working with them.”
Shindler said of the joining of forces: “When you’re making decisions about design or casting, why wouldn’t you go back to the writer to ask? It’s their idea, and they really know about their characters… Editing’s another stage of writing really, you need your writer involved.”
