UK IN FOCUS 2016
Bamburgh Castle is one of Northumberland’s best-known landmarks, and one of the
largest inhabited castles in the country. It sits on an outcrop of volcanic dolerite rock
high above the Northumberland coastline; a prime position that has seen it fought over
by the ancient Britons, Saxons and Vikings. Bamburgh, which has a Norman fort at its
core, has featured in numerous film and TV productions, including Shekhar Kapur’s
historical epic
Elizabeth
, See-Saw Films’
Macbeth
, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion
Cotillard, and Disney’s forthcoming adaptation of Roald Dahl’s
The BFG
, directed by
Steven Spielberg and starring Mark Rylance as the titular giant.
