H
ere at the Knowledge we do more
than just provide a platform for
people to display their talent and
get in touch with experienced industry
professionals: we also work hard to
maintain an amazing database of all
UK films and television programmes
in all stages of production, which goes
by the name of Production Intelligence.
One of the things we clearly see when
we research upcoming productions
for Production Intelligence is that there
is a clear increase in the amount of
productions looking to shoot out in the
nations and regions.
And it makes sense, UK crew is flexible
and widespread and we have hard-
working film offices throughout the
country which can assist shoots in
almost every way imaginable. Look for
example at the Glasgow Film Office
which did such an amazing job turning
their city centre into Philadelphia (see
photo on the right). Or how about Film
London, which recently supported
the producers of feature film Survivor
as well as television series 24 when
they were looking at some pretty big
challenges. Another great example
is Creative England which in the last
12 months has supported over 900
productions including 94 feature films
and 82 TV dramas.
In this second e-Guide we also take a
look at some amazing locations (did
you spot Kenwood House in the photo
below? It’s where they filmed scenes of
Notting Hill) and ask location managers
why they filmed in certain places. It’s
nice to see the wealth of scenery that is
portrayed in international productions
- the UK can do modern, 50s,
mountains, snow, beaches - really there
is a location for every scout.
We also pay tribute to the amazing
production service providers in the
UK, without a strong and hardworking
support industry, not a lot would be
made after all. From water tanks to
generators and light towers to technical
vehicles, they all contribute to the
success of a film, television series,
music video or commercial.
With our book, news offering, guides,
Production Intelligence and database,
we feel very proud to support an
industry that is only getting stronger.

The tax incentives have made a real difference to Britain’s film and
television industry but it’s more than just the money that makes the UK
so attractive to producers. Let’s take a moment to take in the talent and
amazing locations that Britain has to offer the world.
