Working Title adapts Jane Austen

UK production powerhouse Working Title Films is developing a big-screen version of Jane Austen”s classic novel Emma that is currently lining up for a spring shoot.

The film is being made as a co-production with Blueprint Pictures with Blueprint”s Graham Broadbent producing alongside Working Title”s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.

Anya Taylor-Joy (pictured) stars as the titular heroine.

The screenplay is by Eleanor Catton – the author”s Man Booker Prize-winning New Zealand-set novel The Luminaries is currently being turned into a TV series by Working Title Television.

Emma marks the directorial feature debut of American photographer and video director Autumn De Wilde. Filming is expected to be underway in the UK next spring.

Working Title is also nearing production on Cats, a starry feature version of the West End musical with Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench and Idris Elba.

Also on the slate is a Ben Wheatley-directed film adaptation of Daphne du Maurier”s Rebecca starring Lily James and Armie Hammer.
