Stephen Frears films UK dramedy

Stephen FrearsA new TV project directed by Stephen Frears for AMC Sundance begins a London shoot next week.  

State of the Union is a short-form drama comedy written by Nick Hornby about a middle-aged couple who meet up each week in a pub before attending their marriage counselling sessions.

It will be delivered as a 10 x 10 to the US network. 

Roger Michell had originally been attached to direct the project that comes from See-Saw Films. A round-up of key HoDs can be found on Production Intelligence

The company is currently in post on Steve McQueen’s Widows, a Chicago-set feature based on the 1983 ITV drama of the same name, and is in development on period Arctic drama The North Water, set to film in Canada next year. 

Frears comes off the back of BBC One and Blueprint Pictures’ critically acclaimed A Very English Scandal with Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw.
