Pinewood starts work on new film stages

Pinewood ground-breakingPinewood Studios has broken ground on the next phase of development for its flagship filming facility outside London.

Four new sound stages are scheduled to be completed by the end of next year, along with workshops, offices and a back lot.

Earlier this year a separate £500m expansion plan was announced for Shepperton Studios.

The JJ Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode VIII is among the current high-profile residents of Pinewood’s UK production hub.

The 25th James Bond movie was recently announced to start filming at the site this December, but the movie’s specific production schedule has been thrown into doubt since director Danny Boyle departed the project.

Pinewood already offers a multitude of facilities including the 007 Stage that spans nearly 60,000 sq ft and The Roger Moore Stage that offers just under 39,000 sq ft.

Episode VIII is the fifth Star Wars movie to shoot at Pinewood since the iconic space opera was relaunched. Other high-profile recent features have included Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Disney’s upcoming sequel Maleficent 2.
