David Nicholls’ One Day shoots in London and Edinburgh
A six-month shoot begins this week on a new Netflix adaptation of David Nicholls’ romantic drama One Day, starring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod.
The tragi-comic novel was first published in 2009 and follows on-off lovers Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew over a period of 20 years.
Each episode (as with the chapters in the book) re-visits the pair on the same day, 15 July, St Swithin’s Day, the day on which they graduated in 1988. Filming takes place in London and Edinburgh.
Nicholls previously adapted his own novel as a feature film in 2009, directed by Lone Scherfig and starring Jim Sturgess and Anne Hathaway.
The series comes from Drama Republic in association with Universal International Studios and Focus Features. Roanna Benn, Jude Liknaitzky, Nicole Taylor and Nicholls exec produce; Nige Watson produces. Molly Manners directs from scripts by a writing team including Anna Jordan, Vinay Patel and Bijan Sheibani.
Drama Republic is also currently in production in Belfast on The Lover, a new Sky Original drama starring Roisin Gallagher and Johnny Flynn.
