David Copperfield film to open London Film Festival

David Copperfield Armando Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield will open the 63rd London Film Festival on 2 October.

Iannucci directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with regular collaborator Simon Blackwell.

The feature was shot across a variety of UK locations last summer, including London, Yorkshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. Iannucci also produced alongside Kevin Loader.

Dev Patel stars in the title role with a supporting cast including Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Ben Whishaw and Peter Capaldi.

Iannucci said: “It’s a huge thrill and honour to be asked to open the fantastic BFI London Film Festival. ‘The Personal History of David Copperfield’ is a film about compassion, humour, generosity and friendship, and I couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming setting in which to premiere it.”

The London Film Festival runs from 2-13 October.
