Comic book movie The Old Guard filming

A film adaptation of comic book story The Old Guard starts filming this week in the south-east for Netflix.

Based on Image Comics stories by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, the story follows a band of immortal mercenaries, whose powers suddenly become exposed. The film is co-produced by Skydance Media.

Gina Prince-Blythewood is directing stars Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne.

The UK is a production hotspot for comic book movies. Marvel has based several of its big-budget films in the London area and shot key scenes for Infinity War and Endgame in Edinburgh and north-east England.

In recent months, Sony has based its Morbius movie in south-east England but has also used Manchester as a stand-in for New York City.

Netflix is already a prolific producer in the UK, while in the last few years Skydance has shot action sequel Mission: Impossible – Fallout in London and sci-fi movie Annihilation in and around south-east England.
