Soundstage opens at Sky Studios Elstree
The final sound stage on site at Sky Studios Elstree has been officially opened, with a ceremony attended by the now-Duke of Edinburgh.
The former Earl of Wessex, patron of the Production Guild of Great Britain, visited Sky Studios Elstree on 9 March for the official opening of Stage 5, a day before he became Duke of Edinburgh.
Sky Studios CEO Cécile Frot-Coutaz said: “Sky Studios Elstree will create thousands of jobs and will boost the UK’s creative industry at a time when it is needed most. It will become the new creative home for bold and unmissable Sky Original series as well as Hollywood blockbusters from NBCUniversal.
"The opening of this final stage signals the near completion of the site, and we’re delighted to have His Royal Highness join us.”
This event marks the near-completion of Sky Studios Elstree which will house 13 sound stages, generating an estimated £3bn of production investment in the UK creative sector in the first five years.
The site is currently hosting production on the feature version of musical Wicked, to be released as two separate films but shooting back-to-back, directed by Jon M Chu and starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. Filming began in December 2022.
The new edition of World of Studios is now out, with the digital edition free to read here.
