Netflix starts UK shoot on The Witcher S3

  • News

The Witcher S2Filming gets underway today, 4 April, on the third series of Netflix fantasy hit The Witcher, with shooting due to take place largely in the UK.

The drama filmed all of Season 2 in the UK, using a variety of diverse and other-worldly locations a decision partly triggered by the pandemic.

For that run, Arborfield Studio’s backlot became the site for the numerous village sets and the exterior of Kaer Morhen.

“Kaer Morhen is a setting, but it’s really like a character in Season 2,” said production designer Andrew Laws of the importance of the key setting(s). “We were also aware that it’s an environment familiar to those who have read the books and played the video games, so we needed to honour that source material but also elevate it to a new level to keep it exciting for the audience. That was a great challenge, but also a responsibility that we took very seriously.”

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is creator and showrunner on The Witcher, which based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Henry Cavill stars as Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher world has already expanded into a prequel drama, The Witcher: Blood Origin and an adult animated prequel, The Witcher: The Nightmare of the Wolf.
