Discovery orders foodie double

Basil Discovery UK has commissioned two cookery shows for Food Network, with Gok Wan and Rachel Khoo each presenting from their own homes. Production is underway on both.

Gok’s Easy Asian is an 8 x 30 from Sidney Street Productions in which the fashion presenter will cook simple versions of Asian classics.

Hungry Gap Productions in Bristol and Khoo’s production company Peas in a Pot are producing Rachel Khoo’s Simple Pleasures, also an 8 x 30, which will see Khoo will cook her favourite dishes using everyday ingredients.

The two cookery shows are part of a raft of four new commissions from Discovery. Also greenlit for imminent production are upcycling series Restoring the Good Life (w/t), from Angel Eye Media for HGTV, and Countdown to I Do, produced by Studio 71 for TLC.

Discovery UK and Ireland head of commissioning for lifestyle and entertainment Charlotte Reid said: “It’s great to be able to innovate and be solution-based and nimble in this environment, which the producers we work with do brilliantly.

“We’re especially grateful to our talent on these shows who are often not only letting us into their homes, but often taking on many behind-the-scenes responsibility and tasks.”
