Shepperton approved locally for expansion
Shepperton Studios has secured local planning permission to carry out its £500m expansion that will involve developing new stages and office space.
Outline planning permission has been granted by Spelthorne Borough Council's Planning Committee and will now be submitted to the secretary of state for housing, communities and local government for final approval.
Shepperton’s expansion is ultimately predicted to help deliver an additional £300m a year to Britain’s economy through hosting more big-budget films and TV shows, and 3,000 jobs are set to be created at the facility once the expansion is complete.
“The decision to support the Studios expansion provides the opportunity to enhance the UK’s offer, attracting even more producers and directors from around the world, whilst maintaining Shepperton’s position at the forefront of the global production facilities market,” said Adrian Wootton, chief executive of the British Film Commission.
Shepperton Studios currently offers 14 stages spanning up to 30,000 sq ft. Recent high-profile productions to have used the facility have included Mary Poppins Returns (pictured), Christopher Robin and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
