Ben Wheatley to direct Rebecca
Ben Wheatley in on board to direct Dreamworks’ and Working Title’s forthcoming adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca.
Wheatley will be calling the shots from a screenplay by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
Du Maurier’s classic story was first published in 1938 and has not been out of print since.
The novel has been dramatized several times for both film and television, the most famous being Hitchcock’s 1940 feature with Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.
Free Fire director Wheatley’s future slate also includes Freak Shift, in which a group of misfit mercenaries band together to pursue and kill evil nocturnal creatures.
