PI: Exclusives for 2018 - Part 1

Angelina JolieAs subscribers to Production Intelligence will know, we are often the first site to confirm new feature films and TV projects that are in the pipeline.

This year we have had a bumper crop of bite-sized news breaks, providing exclusive details verified first-hand for our subscribers.

Here we take a look at just some of the highlights of ‘PI firsts’ so far in 2018.

The year started well with January’s news that two major US features were heading to film in the UK.

Marvel’s sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming set up pre-production early in the year, as did Disney’s The One and Only Ivan, which counted Angelina Jolie among its producers.

The latter began filming in early April and is a live action/animation feature based on the book by Katherine Applegate about a silverback gorilla that lives in a cage in a shopping mall.

BritanniaIn February Production Intelligence was first to report that a second series of Sky’s historical drama Britannia was in the pipeline, this time filming largely in the UK - unlike the first run, which had been based in Prague.

Later that month we also confirmed that Wonder Woman 1984 would be basing production in the UK. Gal Gadot reprises her superhero role in the film that is once again directed by Patty Jenkins.

Around this time we also brought exclusive news of two recommissions of detective shows – a sixth run of Oxford-set Endeavour and a ninth series of Vera, the detective drama that showcases north-east locations.

A Danny Boyle film is always newsworthy and in February PI was the first to confirm that a new feature from the director was in the pipeline. With Boyle calling the shots from a screenplay by Richard Curtis, the film stars Himesh Patel, Ana de Armas and Lily James and uses locations including Suffolk, Norfolk, Liverpool, Cardiff and London.

Early March brought exclusive news that a fifth series of the mockumentary People Just Do Nothing had been commissioned from Roughcut TV.

Wonder Woman 2018 continued to provide plenty of news breaks for films and scripted TV projects – we’ll bring you the next round-up soon!
