The Miniaturist in pre-production
Pre-production is now underway on The Miniaturist, BBC One’s three-part adaptation of Jessie Burton’s best-selling book.
Set in 17th century Amsterdam, the story follows a young woman who marries into the wealthy Brandt family, all of whom are hiding secrets. The novel went on to sell more than one million copies in 27 countries.
Burton's work was actively chased by executive producer Kate Sinclair of The Forge, the production company behind the adaptation. She said of the commission when it was first announced: “I read and pursued The Miniaturist in manuscript for over a year before publication, so utterly passionate was I about its astounding beauty and rich and diverse characters.”
