Sky 1 drama among late-April projects
It’s been a super-busy month so far for UK crew, and it seems the next week or so will prove equally fruitful as cameras start to roll on several film and TV productions during the last few days of April.
With the help of our online subscription service Production Intelligence, we take a look at the line-up for busy crew around the country, and further afield, as principal photography gets underway on a variety of features and TV dramas.
Cameras roll in late April on Foreign Bodies, an ambitious new 8 x 45 drama for E4. From Glue producers Eleven Film, it follows a disparate group of British lads and American girls as they travel around Asia – a journey which throws up some very personal challenges and realisations.
Tom Basden has written the drama, several episodes of which will be directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken. Malaysia is among the locations for the four-month shoot; a UK producer and line producer are both detailed on PI.
A major new eight-part series, Jamestown, begins filming towards the end of April in Hungary. The project comes from Carnival Films and, although much of the detail is under wraps, the drama is thought to centre on the story of English settlers in the New World.
The show is for delivery to Sky 1 and, although the majority of the crew is sourced locally in Hungary, PI subscribers can log in for details on the producer, line producer and director.
The island group of Guadeloupe will once again be home to the cast and crew of Death in Paradise when Series 6 begins filming in late April. The drama comedy is from Tony Jordan’s Red Planet Pictures and stars Kris Marshall as the bumbling London detective Humphrey Goodman.
The show has been a constant ratings winner for BBC One, with nearly 7 million viewers tuning in for the Series five opener earlier this year. PI subscribers can find the line producer, production co-ordinator, casting director and production designer on our site.
Social climber Hyacinth Bucket (‘Bouquet’) is to be revisited in the BBC’s one-off revival of Keeping Up Appearances, which films at the end of April. Roy Clarke has written a prequel episode, Young Hyacinth, which is set in the late 1950s at a time when Hyacinth is taking charge of the family.
Sarah Hitchcock produces, with Sandy Johnson directing. The casting director is also on Production Intelligence.
A daytime returner, Father Brown, begins shooting Series 5 during the last week of April. From the BBC Drama Village in Birmingham, the show has become the most popular drama series on daytime television. Mark Williams plays the crime-solving priest, with some episodes loosely inspired by the G.K. Chesterton’s original stories.
