Talent boarding Disney's Cinderella

Helena Bonham CarfterThings are moving along nicely on Cinderella, Disney’s new take on the classic fairy tale.

With our very own Sir Kenneth Branagh at the helm (Wallanderella…?), and the production office set up at Pinewood Studios, principal photography is due to get underway at the end of August.

Lily James is lined up to play the eponymous and put-upon servant girl whose goodness overcomes all to land her the ultimate prize, her very own Prince Charming, in this instance played by Game of Thrones star Richard Madden.

Helena Bonham Carter will don the fairy godmother’s frock for this one, with Cate Blanchett playing Cinderella’s nemesis, the wicked stepmother. Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey) and Holliday Grainger (Great Expectations) pair up as the stepsisters.

The most recent name to be linked to this starry project from the Mouse House is Stellan Skarsgard, who is used to taking direction from Branagh, having starred in Thor in 2011.

Cinderella is one of many Hollywood projects to choose the UK for filming over the coming months.
