Stephen Tompkinson returns to ITV as DCI Banks

The third series of DCI Banks has been commissioned for ITV, starring Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Caroline Catz.

The dark detective drama from Left Bank Pictures is based on the best-selling crime novels by Peter Robinson; the new six episode run will be made up of two-parters based on three of his novels from the Banks stable: Wednesday”s Child, Piece of My Heart and Bad Boy.

Filming on the drama begins in August with producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd on board. The executive producers are Left Bank”s Andy Harries, Gabriel Silver and Robert Murphy.

Harries said: “I”m delighted by the continued success of DCI Banks. Stephen Tompkinson and the whole team have turned a hit series of novels into an international success story that began, like so many of the great TV detectives, on ITV.”
