ITV's Broadchurch gets a second series

Another run of the hugely successful Broadchurch has been commissioned and will go into production in 2014. The highly-anticipated final episode aired on Monday (22 April) on ITV and was the subject of social media frenzy and betting activity.

The story centred on the investigation into the murder of a young boy in a supposedly tight knit seaside community, where secrets and lies were gradually exposed and residents implicated.

The series is from Kudos Film and Television. Exec producers are Jane Featherstone and creator/writer Chris Chibnall, who said: “The whole Broadchurch team has been delighted and properly gobsmacked by the response from ITV viewers. When I first talked to Peter Fincham [ITV’s director of television] about Broadchurch, I mentioned that if people liked it, there was another very different story we could tell afterwards. I’m really thrilled that we’re going to tell that story too.”
