E4 orders second helping of My Mad Fat Diary

Tiger Aspect”s comedy-drama My Mad Fat Diary has been commissioned for a second series. Based on the real-life teenage diaries of former psychiatric patient Rae Earl, the new series is scheduled to start filming in the summer.

Launched at the beginning of the year to positive reviews, the series follows teenager Rae (played by rising star Sharon Rooney) as she adjusts to living at home after being released from a psychiatric ward.

Lead writer Tom Bidwell will be back on board the 6 x 60 run, with other writers to be announced in the coming weeks.

Executive producer Jude Liknaitzky said: “’;We are beyond delighted to be able to take the stories and characters of My Mad Fat Diary to a second series. We have been overwhelmed by the response to the show and can’;t wait to bring more of Rae’;s stories to life. It is a joy to work with the creative powerhouse of Tom Bidwell, Rae Earl and Sharon Rooney.”
