BBC3, in conjunction with BBC Learning, has commissioned a two-part, factual-based drama from indie producer Darlow Smithson Productions (DSP).

The drama, entitled One Day Like This (w/t), will look at the impact of a fatal car crash on a small community. Set in a small English town, the series tells the story of the collision from the point of view of the people involved, and is based on extensive research.

Zai Bennett, Controller, BBC3 called it “a riveting and emotional narrative inspired by real life events. It demonstrates BBC3’s role to produce thought-provoking drama for young adults.”

Julian Ware, Creative Director at DSP added: “DSP is continuing to place significant focus on this kind of factual-based drama, which we see as an exciting and fast-emerging genre. One Day Like This (w/t) has been meticulously researched by our team and developed into a powerful and thought-provoking drama.”

The drama stars Sasha Parkinson (Coronation Street), Georgina Henshaw (Waterloo Road), Lewis Rainer (Dani's House) and Lily Loveless (Skins). Set to air in 2013, it is written by Terry Cafolla, directed by Sarah Walker and produced by Nick Pitt.

The series was commissioned by Zai Bennett and Charlotte Moore, Commissioning Executive for Documentaries. Maxine Watson is Commissioning Executive for the BBC. The Executive Producers at Darlow Smithson are Dominic Barlow and Julian Ware.
