BBC announces titles for second Salford Sitcom Showcase

The BBC has announced details of the second Salford Sitcom Showcase, produced by BBC Comedy and BBC North, which will take place at MediaCityUK between 21 and 23 November 2012.

Following from the success of last year”s Showcase, which led to two commissions – Citizen Khan for BBC One and Hebburn for BBC Two – this year will see six brand new comedies performed in front of a live studio audience. Commenting, Peter Salmon, Director BBC North said: “The first Salford Sitcom Showcase was so good, we thought we’;d do it again. BBC Comedy is the natural home for so many funny performers, writers and entertainers, so this event is our autumn highlight and hopefully will result in commissions.”

Kristian Smith, Out of London Commissioner, BBC Comedy Commissioning, said: “It”s great to be showing six theatrical presentations of great new potential sitcoms to local audiences and industry colleagues in the studios here at MediaCityUK. Putting developments on their feet is always the best way to see what a series might offer. It”s been a fantastic year for comedy made outside of London, and we”re hoping to build on that success.”

The showcase, which will be produced by Helen Meller for BBC Comedy, includes the following new titles: The Gatekeeper, Just Us, 1987, It Takes A Village, Chain Gang and Homeboys.
