Harry Enfield launches new TV production company

Harry Enfield has joined forces with Skins writer Bryan Elsley to launch a new production company called Balloon. The launch comes in tandem with the news that the duo have secured a commission from Channel 4 for a series called Dates, about different couples who go on dates.

Balloon will start by focusing on Dates, which was originated by Elsley. But the company will also be used to develop new content with emerging writing and comedy talent. Independent of Balloon, both will also continue their existing commitments. Enfield has BBC sketch show Harry & Paul while Elsley is working on the seventh series of Skins for E4.

In a separate indie development, Tiger Aspect’s long-serving head of drama Greg Brenman is leaving to set up his own company. Brenman launched Tiger Aspect’s drama department in 1996 and counts Robin Hood among his many credits. He has continued to enjoy success since the company was acquired by Endemol two and a half years ago.

Commenting on the decision, he said: “Since Endemol bought Tiger Aspect, the collaboration has resulted in one of the drama department’s most successful periods. The only reason I would leave at this time is to meet the irresistible challenge of setting up my own company.” He leaves at the end of the year and will be replaced as head of drama by Will Gould.
