Pinewood Unveils New TV Facilities

  • News

Pinewood Studios has unveiled brand new TV facilities for its TV business as part of a multi-million pound investment.

The dedicated TV Studios, 9,000 sq ft  TV One and TV Two, now have a new, spacious full HD, 5.1 gallery - a vastly increased studio lighting infrastructure, increased production accommodation and new studio floors. New equipment used in the gallery includes a Sony MVS-7000X multi-format 3 ME vision mixer; Sony OLED monitors; Calrec Artemis Beam digital audio console with 64 multi-layer faders; Telex RTS talkback system; 2 x DVS Venice 4200 4 x channel video servers for ingest/playback and DVS SpycerBox Ultra storage server with 48Tb media storage. To complement this upgrade and create efficiencies Pinewood’s Digital Content Services department has created a digital solution to ingest, digest, transfer, edit, store and deliver content in any format or language and connect with the world securely and at speed.

All of this means that Pinewood can offer its TV clients unique, bespoke solutions to meet any creative or technical requirement in the best environment possible.

For larger productions, Pinewood offers the 30,000 sq ft Richard Attenborough Stage with a 50ft grid height, designed for both film and TV production and a further 32 stages of up to 59,000 sq ft across its sites. This means productions can hold audiences of over 2,000 and build vast, complex sets.

Commenting, Paul Darbyshire, Broadcast Director at Pinewood said: “This new investment is in direct response to our clients evolving needs. We need to be as flexible as possible and have a core infrastructure in place that gives us options – whether it’s on the number of cameras required, set turnaround, audio channels, data management or simply accommodation space. No two productions are the same."

Nick Smith, Commercial Director added: “It’s fair to say that in certain parts of the industry Pinewood is best known for its film credits. The Pinewood Board and management team, however, are committed to our TV business. With a new stage to service TV production and now with this new state of the art gallery to complement our already great TV studios, we are putting a marker down to other UK studios. We want Pinewood to be the first call for any production team working on TV and believe, with this investment, we will be.”
