The Bachelor: Channel 5 Greenlights Second Series

Channel 5 has commissioned a second run of The Bachelor, for transmission later this year.

The 2012 version, like 2011, will be produced by Shed-owned Ricochet and will comprise 10 x 60-minute episodes.

The eligible star of the show will be Spencer Matthews, who came to fame on E4’s scripted reality hit Made In Chelsea. It will see 24 girls compete to try and win Matthews’ heart.

According to Channel 5, “through a variety of group dates and intimate meetings, Spencer will decide who’s the right girl for him. He will whittle down the group of girls from 24 to the chosen one and, along the way, learn what it is he’s looking for in a soulmate.”

The programme will be filmed in some of the most glamorous, romantic and breathtaking locations in the world. Commenting on the commission, Steve Gowans Head of Factual Entertainment said: “We are delighted that The Bachelor is returning to Channel 5 for a second series. Spencer Matthews is the perfect bachelor and we’re hoping he finds his ideal partner on the show.”

The Bachelor is a global format from Warner Bros/Next Entertainment that first saw the light of day on ABC US in 2002. After a brief run on BBC3 between 2003 & 2005, it was picked up by Channel 5 in 2011 and was big success for the broadcaster, performing above average for key audiences, most notably young women.
