ITV Uses Digital Switchover As Hook For Hit Show

TV’;s biggest ever hits are to be celebrated in two-hour special about the most watched shows in television history.

Made by RDF Television, TV Smash (w/t), will herald the most popular TV moments ever, such as Hilda Ogden leaving the Coronation Street cobbles for the last time and Rodney and Delboy finding a watch which makes them millionaires in Only Fools and Horses. It will feature shows that inspired future hits and events which lead to freak ratings figures such as last year”s Royal Wedding, the 1966 World Cup Final and Torvill and Dean”s performance at the 1994 winter Olympics.

Claire Horton, commissioning editor for entertainment programmes at ITV1, said: “This is a celebration of the biggest shows ever made since TV began with some programmes being watched by over half the population. Is football more popular than a Royal Wedding? Is Coronation Street more popular than EastEnders?”

TV Smash is by RDF, a Zodiak Media company. Exec producer is Will Smith; series producer is Chris Walley.
