London, Brum, Sheffield Drama Shoots For Beeb

The BBC has unveiled the cast for Stephen Poliakoff’s new BBC2 drama, Dancing On The Edge. Commissioned by BBC Controller of Drama Commissioning, Ben Stephenson and BBC2 Controller, Janice Hadlow, the drama stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children Of Men) and Matthew Goode (Watchmen, Leap Year). The series also features Jacqueline Bisset, Janet Montgomery, Mel Smith, Anthony Head, Caroline Quentin and Jane Asher.

Dancing On The Edge is shooting in London and Birmingham for 16 weeks. Ruby Film & TV is producing the series, backed by Endgame Entertainment, Playground, Creative England (through the Advantage Media Production Fund, previously managed by Screen West Midlands), and LipSync Productions. ITV Studios Global Entertainment will distribute the series.

In a separate drama announcement, the BBC has unveiled a Tiger Aspect Production for BBC1 called Prisoners’ Wives. The 6-part drama tells the story of four very different women, each struggling to cope with a significant man in her life serving time in prison.

Written by Julie Gearey, the drama is set and filmed in Sheffield and stars Emma Rigby, Polly Walker, Pippa Haywood and Natalie Gavin, supported by actors including Jonas Armstrong and Iain Glen. Prisoners’ Wives is executive produced for Tiger Aspect by Roanna Benn, Rebecca de Souza and Greg Brenman (Tiger’s Head of Drama) and for the BBC by Christopher Aird.
