CBBC Lays Foundation For London 2012

CBBC (Children”s BBC) has commissioned Zodiak Kids” production company Foundation Scotland, to produce a children”s sports series – Ultimate Sports Day – to be aired in the run up to London 2012.

The 11 x 30mins series will see four teams of four young athletes from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland compete to become the Ultimate Sports Day champions. Hosted by Ore Oduba, each episode will test the teams” sports skills through events such as “Skywalker” & “Bungee Basketball”.

All four teams will be mentored by sports stars such as decathlete Dean Macey, ice dancer Sinead Kerr, sprinter Christian Malcolm and boxer Barry McGuigan.

Commenting on the series, Steven Andrew, Creative Director, The Foundation said: “Ultimate Sports Day is a new kind of sports-themed event for today”s digital kids. With the upcoming Olympics, Ultimate Sports Day is relevant to young athletes who aspire to be the next crop of stars.”

Controller CBBC Damian Kavanagh added: “Here at CBBC one of our ambitions is to inspire children to get involved and be active.  Ultimate Sports Day will tap into our audience”s anticipation and excitement in advance of the Olympic Games.”

Ultimate Sports Day is in production in Scotland, at the Ravenscraig sports centre, and will premiere on CBBC in early 2012. Executive Producers are Steven Andrew and Simon Parsons for The Foundation and Kez Margrie for CBBC. 

Ultimate Sports Day is created by Jonathan Marks from MTC (UK) and the Series Producer is Steve Pinhay for The Foundation.
