BSkyB Resilient In Face Of Tough Market

Off-air, BSkyB has had a challenging few months following its aborted take over by News Corp. But this doesn’t seem to have had much impact on its core business. Latest financial results show that it increased revenues by 9% to £1.66 billion for the three months ending 30 September 2011. It also managed to dig out a 16% rise in operating profit.

 
At the same time, Sky’s total customer base rose to 10.4 million; with 2.9 million of these taking TV, broadband and telephony from the company. In other headlines, new VOD service Sky Go achieved 1.6 million customers and Sky HD added 103,000.
 
CEO Jeremy Darroch said: "In tough conditions our move to more broadly-based growth and multiple products is serving us well. Looking ahead, the environment is likely to remain challenging as a result of the pressures facing (UK/Eire) consumers".
