Principal photography has started in and around Manchester on Theatre of Dreams, starring Brian Cox as Sir Matt Busby and Natascha McElhone.

Theatre of Dreams is a coming-of-age movie that tells the fictional story of Sir Matt Busby who helps 11-year-old tearaway Georgie fulfil his footballing dream, whilst putting his own demons of the Busby Babes to rest. Shooting across Manchester, Salford and Bolton during September and October 2011, key locations include Salford FC’s Moor Lane football stadium, the University of Manchester, the John Rylands Library, Stockport Grammar school and Salford City Reds’ rugby league ground The Willows.

Award-winning actor Brian Cox (Braveheart, The Bourne Identity) stars as Sir Matt Busby. Children, primarily from the North of England with varying acting experience, have been cast to play younger roles. Jack Smith will play the lead role of Georgie.

Theatre of Dreams is being directed by Manchester-born David Scheinmann. Double Emmy-nominated Bill and Ben Productions, Justin Peyton and Manuela Noble are producing. Mark Sandell is Executive producing. Theatre of Dreams will be distributed in the UK, in 2012, by Trinity Films, who are also co-financing. Director David Scheinmann says: “Theatre of Dreams is a funny and touching family feature – Billy Elliot meets Bend it Like Beckham. Our cast is an exciting mix of established, renowned actors combined with fresh British talent.”
